UPCOMING EVENTS & MEETINGS

2021

Saturday, October 9  |  Fall Dumpster Day – 8-11 am

The location will be in the southwest parking lot of Research Hospital – Brookside Campus. We are looking for volunteers to help people load trash that morning. If you are able to volunteer, please reach out to the Board through our website contact page.

Trash dumpster guidelines:

  • Dumpsters are for common household trash only.
  • Please do not place leaves and brush, tires, household hazardous waste or appliances in the dumpster.
  • No construction trash.

Leaf and brush dumpster guidelines:

  • Only leaves and brush are allowed in the dumpster.
  • Yard debris must be in a paper lawn bag or a cardboard box.
  • Tree limbs can be up to 10″ in diameter and 6′ in length.
  • Please do not place plastic bags or trash in the dumpster. The State of Missouri does not allow leaves and brush in the landfill.

In addition to the above, there will be a metal scrapper on site.

Friday, October 15  |  OMG 1st Autumn Bagged Leaf Pickup through Compost Connection

20 paper bags or 18” x 36 bundles per household

The Oak Meyer Garden Association will supplement the City of Kansas City Leaf and Brush collection by providing additional pickup dates. If you have any questions, you can contact our office or a board member of the association.

To provide the best possible service for the collection of your yard waste, please use the following guidelines. Route Service begins at 7:00 a.m. Please make sure all items are easily accessible from the street. If items are blocked by cars or other materials, they may not be collected.

  • Additional bags will be picked up if you have an over limit sticker or if you have contacted the office to arrange for additional payment of $1.50 per bag.

  • Please keep yard waste bags separate from trash and recycling carts so they are easy to view and are not damaged by collection equipment. Waste should be visible from both directions.

  • Maximum item weight is 50 pounds. Your yard waste can be placed at the curb in either paper yard waste bags or bundles that are no larger than 18” x 36” and double tied with twine. Mark thorns for collection safety.

  • Do not use plastic tape on paper bags since it is not biodegradable. Small cardboard boxes may be used provided they are no larger than the size and weight limits. We suggest boxes for fruits, small brush, wood or items that would easily break a bag during removal.

  • We only pickup natural yard waste including grass, leaves, tree limbs, flower or garden plants (without their pots), walnuts and apples. Christmas Trees are the only items that do not require bagging or bundling. We will accept Christmas trees up to 6’ in length, if larger please cut in half.

  • All materials collected are taken to a licensed compost facility. This recycling facility does not allow for ANY trash, landscape, or construction materials. If bags contain trash or foreign materials, they will have to be left at the curb. Any plastic inside your bag will be considered trash and not picked up. We do NOT collect animal waste or dead animals.

Monday, November 15   |  Envision Leaf Suction Service (for those who pay to participate)

Click through to see pricing and sign up at https://envisionlawnandtree.com/oak-meyer-gardens/

LEAF PICKUP GUIDELINES:
  • Envision’s trucks are equipped with a side-mounted vacuum designed follow the curb and suction up long rows of leaves. (We even spray a light mist of water on the leaves to keep dust levels down during vacuuming!)
  • Please blow or rake leaves into a narrow, long pile along the curb. The vacuum arm can reach 3 feet into the lawn area, so be sure to get them near the curb – and avoid getting them into the street or on the sidewalk.
  • Please do not rake leaves into the street or gutter as this may inhibit natural rain drainage activity and possibly block storm drains.
  • Our recycling area and vacuum are designed for leaves only – so be sure other trash, rocks, large sticks or other debris are not in your leaf row.
  • Be sure not to park any vehicles in front of your leaf row on your collection day!
